Alexander Mackiewicz: 13-Year-Old Fatally Struck by Van on Way to School
In Highlands Ranch on a Wednesday morning, a serious incident occurred near the intersection of Highlands Ranch Parkway and Venneford Ranch Road, where a van was involved in a crash that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy. The victim, identified as Alexander Mackiewicz, a seventh-grade student at Mountain Ridge Middle School, was crossing the street on his way to school at the time of the incident. Alexander, who was using a one-wheel electric vehicle, was eagerly looking forward to his first baseball practice of the season.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident took place just before 7 a.m., with the driver of the involved Sherwin Williams van staying at the scene. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the specifics of the crash. In the aftermath, Alexander’s family and the local community have been left to deal with the significant emotional and financial toll of his untimely death. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral costs and other unforeseen expenses, estimated at around $20,000.
Following this tragic event, Mountain Ridge Middle School and the Douglas County School District have expressed their condolences and offered support to Alexander’s family, friends, and classmates. A community vigil was also organized to honor Alexander’s memory.
