Retired Police Chief Andreas Probst Fatally Struck in Deliberate Hit-and-Run

October 19, 2023

Las Vegas, NV – A tragic and deliberate act has shaken the local community, leading to charges against two teenagers. Former Bell Police Department Chief Andreas Probst, 64, was purposefully hit while riding his bicycle in the vicinity of North Tenaya Way and West Centennial Drive. The retired chief, who dedicated 35 years to law enforcement and later worked in global security, leaves behind a wife, Crystal, and two children.

The suspects, Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys, aged 18 and 16 respectively, are facing serious charges, including murder. Ayala was previously 17 at the time of the incident but has since turned 18. The charges against them, filed by District Attorney Steve Wolfson, also include battery with the use of a deadly weapon, attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, and a range of additional felonies stemming from other related incidents. Both are set to be prosecuted as adults, and their custody status will be addressed in an upcoming court hearing.

The fatal act against Probst was reportedly recorded on video. As per the evidence, Ayala drove a stolen Hyundai Elantra while Keys filmed the deliberate attack on his iPhone. Disturbingly, the video reveals the teenagers laughing and verbally encouraging the attack. After the impact, which threw Probst 96 feet from the point of collision, the duo sped away. The stolen Hyundai was later found crashed near Craig Road and Rancho Drive, with Ayala apprehended following a brief chase. Keys was not present at the crash scene but was later arrested after the video he shared on social media led to his identification.

Prior to this fatal attack, the teens are alleged to have used the stolen Hyundai in a series of reckless incidents. One such incident involved hitting another bicyclist, causing knee injuries. They are also accused of hitting a Toyota Corolla to seemingly garner attention from female students in the vicinity. The same vehicle later rammed into another car’s back bumper before the fatal incident with Probst. All these acts portray a pattern of reckless endangerment and violence.

Such heinous actions have caused an uproar in the community. DA Wolfson commented, “The behavior exhibited by Defendants Ayala and Keys is outrageous and cannot be tolerated in this community.” He assured that justice would be served for the innocent victims.

For the family of Andreas Probst and others affected by these malicious acts, the journey to justice and healing begins.
